Q
kids.barcelona asked
For an English-speaking 0-6 year old with little or no Catalan, what does a typical day at Casal d'Estiu Petits actually look like, and how do staff balance Catalan and English so a child can settle in confidently from day one?
LT
Lai Tur Morales
At Casal d’Estiu Petits, a typical day is structured yet playful, including art and crafts, music, water games (with small pools), dramatic play, and plenty of movement-based activities. Children also have time for lunch, a snack, and nap/rest time, and they can bring a morning snack if needed.
Regarding language, our team includes both Catalan- and English-speaking educators. During the school year, each class has two teachers (one per language), ensuring continuous exposure. In the summer camp, there is one main teacher per group, but we rotate staff and incorporate additional educators so children are still naturally exposed to both languages. This flexible approach helps children feel comfortable, supported, and confident, even if they start with little or no Catalan.
