At €8 a morning last year, this is a low-cost way to spend part of the break inside the city's own archaeological sites, with a different hands-on theme each day.
- Book by the day: every workshop is its own ticket, so you can pick one morning or all of them.
- Ages 6 to 12, drop-off only: parents do not stay.
- In Catalan: all workshops are run in Catalan.
- A new theme each day: last year kids built a 1700s diorama, drew a map of the El Born dig and made chocolate lollipops.
About
"Arqueonautes" is the Christmas holiday program of MUHBA, the Barcelona History Museum: a series of standalone morning workshops instead of a week-long camp. Each session runs 10:00 to 14:00 and takes one innovation that changed Barcelona (Roman aqueducts and sewers, Gothic architecture, early-modern map making, the arrival of chocolate, the printed "indianes" textiles), then pairs a visit to the archaeological site with a hands-on project the children take home. Sessions are for ages 6 to 12, and children attend on their own: these are not family workshops. They run at two MUHBA sites, El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria and the museum at Plaça del Rei. Workshops are in Catalan, and children bring their own snack. In 2025-26 there were nine workshops between Dec 22 and Jan 2, seven at El Born and two at Plaça del Rei, at €8 each. Families book each date separately through the museum's ticketing links, which opened in mid-November. Dates and prices shown are from 2025-26. The 2026-27 edition is usually announced in mid-November.
