Do I need to stay with my child, or can I drop them off?

You stay. It's run as a family activity, so at least one adult joins each child for both the gallery walk and the hands-on part.

Is it a sit-down workshop or do we walk around?

Both. You start with a guided walk through the museum's rooms, then finish in a classroom for the practical smelling part, so kids aren't sitting still the whole time.

Some of the smells are meant to be nasty, will that bother my kid?

That's half the fun. Alongside pleasant perfumes you'll sniff some deliberately foul odors tied to mummification, and most kids love the gross-out reactions.
