What you need to know
- Walk-in, no booking: all 10 of our kids' picks open their doors to whoever turns up during opening hours
- Booked visits are full, including the Tibidabo water tower, so skip anything that needs a sign-up
- Check the day first: many buildings open only Saturday or only Sunday, and some only in the morning
About
For one weekend a year, more than 220 buildings that are normally closed open their doors for free. Volunteers run every door, and at some, the architect shows you around. Kids get to walk into places they would never see otherwise: a working fire station, the police horse stables, a playhouse built for children in the 1950s, a Civil War air-raid shelter. Almost all of it is walk-in. Toddlers will find it a lot of walking.

- 10am–3pmTower and crypt of the Convent dels ÀngelsNormally closed. Open Saturday and Sunday, same hours. The door is at number 5, not the MACBA. Stairs only.
- 10am–7pmBetevé TV studiosThe city's TV and radio studios, near Glòries. Walk-in.
- 10am–7pmSailing center at Port OlímpicMarked as good for kids by the festival. Guided, no sign-up.
- 10:30am to 1:00pmCivil War air-raid shelter at Mas GuinardóTours of the shelter and the old farmhouse start every 30 minutes, the last at 1:00pm. Guided, no sign-up. Stairs only.
- 4pm–7pm1950s kids' playhouse (Caseta de nines del Putxet)A small house built in the 1950s for a family's children, in the Putxet gardens. Walk in and look around on your own.
