About
A neighborhood chess club in Guinardó that runs weekday-evening classes for kids, plus a Friday Espai Social where members drop in for friendly games. Founded in 1994 and based at the Casal d'Entitats Mas Guinardó since 2011, it is a social sports association with a stated emphasis on bringing women and girls into chess, and it awards a separate girls' trophy in every age group at its own junior tournaments.

€34 a month for one hour of class a week, or €50 a month for an hour and a half, plus a €20 matrícula. Which one your child does follows their school year: 1r and 2n de primària do the one hour, and from 3r up it is an hour and a half.
Yes, and it can be a lot. The club is accredited by Barcelona's Pla de l'Esport Escolar, so families with children up to 18 can apply to the city for help. What you get depends on your family's situation and ranges from nothing up to 90% of the cost of the activity. You apply between September 15 and October 7, either through the Oficina Virtual de Tràmits or by calling 010, and the club gives you the activity code the form asks for.
Email comunicacio@peonaipeo.com with your child's age and chess level, and the club will tell you what it can offer. Groups are still being set and more open when there is demand, so it is worth asking even if nothing obvious fits. Primary-school groups generally sit between 17:00 and 19:00.
From 1r de primària, around age 6, and they have occasionally taken younger children. There is no upper limit on the youth groups, which run to 18. From 18 the club treats students as adults and puts them in the late slot, 20:00 to 21:30.
Two ways. Any family thinking about it can sit in on a trial class, with no commitment. Or drop by the Espai Social on a Friday between 18:00 and 20:30 for friendly games. You do not have to stay the whole time or arrive at 18:00 sharp, just come within that window.
