Josep Puig i Cadafalch rebuilt it for him in 1898, topping it with a stepped gable and filling the doorway with carved animals pouring chocolate and taking photos. The main floor keeps its original furniture, audio-guided visits leave every 30 minutes, and the basement shop pours hot chocolate to the family recipe.
A fenced play area in the gardens of Plaça de la Sagrada Família, directly facing the basilica's Passion façade. Younger kids get a slide tower and spring riders, and the square around it adds gravel paths, lawns, benches under mature shade trees, and a drinking fountain next to the play zone. Designed by Lluis Domenech i Montaner and built between 1902 and 1930, this UNESCO-listed site is the world's largest Art Nouveau complex: 12 restored pavilions covered in colored tile, sculpture, and stained glass, set among open gardens and linked by long underground tunnels kids can walk through. This palace has two different faces: a Gothic-style front crusted with gargoyles on Avinguda Diagonal and a curvy Modernista apartment block behind. Josep Puig i Cadafalch, the architect of Casa Amatller, rebuilt it in 1904 for the Baró de Quadras, and sculptor Eusebi Arnau packed the facade with dragons, knights, and improbable beasts that make a great spotting game. Now the Institut Ramon Llull's headquarters, it opens for 50-minute guided tours on Fridays.
A relaxed lawned park behind the Nord bus station, built around two giant ceramic-tiled earthworks by sculptor Beverly Pepper. The blue Cel Caigut rises from the grass like a wave, and kids treat the sloping mounds as something to climb and roll down. There is a playground, ping-pong tables and a basketball hoop, with shade under the spiral of lime trees.
One of the largest open green spaces near Plaça d'Espanya, on the site of the old city abattoir behind the Las Arenas center. Six playgrounds spread across the park, the biggest fully accessible, set among shady pine groves, alongside ping-pong and pétanque. Towering over the main square is Miró's 22-meter Dona i Ocell sculpture, and the on-site library has a big children's section.
The home of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra runs over 300 family concerts a season, pitched by age from newborns to pre-teens. Shows last about 50 minutes with sets, projections and movement, from the sensory Concert per a nadons for babies to brass and full-orchestra productions. Most run on weekend mornings and sell out, so book ahead.
Gaudí's last apartment building has a self-supporting stone facade with no straight walls and twisting wrought-iron balconies. The visit climbs through two plant-filled inner courtyards to the Whale Attic, a hall of parabolic brick arches holding an exhibition on Gaudí's work, then out onto the rooftop terrace where sculpted chimneys and stair towers look like stone warriors. A restored 1900s flat shows how residents actually lived.
Three floors of pharaonic art from the Fundació Arqueològica Clos, with over 1,100 pieces: mummies and a netted burial, painted sarcophagi, a granite lion, jewelry, and stone reliefs covered in hieroglyphs. Kids can borrow an activity sheet, follow the English audioguide, and on weekends join family workshops where they mummify a figure or excavate a dig pit.
El Planter is the youth branch of the Eòlia drama school, with weekly courses in theater, musical theater, acting, and singing grouped by age from 7 up. Sessions mix improvisation, scene work, voice, and movement, and each group rehearses toward a piece performed in front of an audience at the Teatre Eòlia. Classes run in Catalan and Spanish.
