What you need to know
- Almost all are free; only the giant charity tió at Centre Cívic Navas costs €4 per person, with the money going to a local jobs charity
- No booking needed at Centre Cívic Teixonera (Thu Dec 17) and the charity tió at Espai Antoni Miró Peris (Mon Dec 21); the rest need a place booked
- Monday, December 21 is the big day, with three parties, including a morning workshop at Vil·la Florida where kids find and decorate their own tió
About
Caga Tió is the Catalan Christmas log. From December 8, families feed a little log with a painted face and a red barretina cap every night and tuck it under a blanket. On Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, kids beat it with sticks, singing, so it will "poop" out sweets and small presents. Civic centers and neighborhood casals throw their own tió parties in December, with a big shared log, songs and stories. Some add a twist: a flashlight hunt for the tió in the Collserola woods, or a workshop where kids find a log and decorate one to take home.
