This week, 1 of 16: No School Monday: 10 Free Plans in Sarrià and Les Corts

Held in the spirit of Rio de Janeiro's Carnaval, the Carnaval de Sitges is one of Spain's biggest and most spectacular carnival celebrations, ranked among the ten best in the world, and it has drawn crowds to this seaside town for more than a century. From February 12th to 18th the streets of Sitges fill with parades of floats, street dancing, live music, costumes and colour. For families, the highlight is the children's parade (rúa infantil), which sets off at 12:00 on Sunday, February 15th and again on Tuesday, February 17th, running from Avinguda Sofia to the Cap de la Vila. The big adult parades, the flamboyant rua de la disbauxa on Sunday evening and the rua de l'extermini on Tuesday night, are wilder, later and far more crowded, so the midday children's parade is the easy, kid-friendly way to enjoy the spectacle. Sitges is a short train ride south of Barcelona, and you can expect standing room only on the trains around the main parade days.
More family picks, Friday to Sunday.
