How do we actually get there and where do we park?

The Liceu is right on La Rambla in the Gothic Quarter, so metro is your best bet: L3 to Liceu stop, or L4 to Jaume I and a 5-minute walk. Street parking around there is a nightmare on weekends, so if you're driving, head for a paid garage — Parking BSM Plaça Catalunya or SABA BAMSA Rambla-Liceu are both within a 10-minute walk.

Is there anything to do before the show to get the kids into it?

Yes, the Liceu publishes a free Family Preparation Guide and a Spotify playlist of the Puccini pieces used in the production (both linked above). They also run an optional pre-show family workshop (free for subscribers, €3 otherwise) led by artists from the cas, limited spots, ticket-holders only, bookable through the Liceu site.
