Is this worth the drive from Barcelona with little kids?

Cardedeu is about 30km north, roughly 45 minutes by car or train, so it's doable as a half-day trip. The fair is spread across a big outdoor space with lots of animals and activities, so kids can move around freely, but there's a lot of walking, so bring a stroller if your youngest gets tired easily.

What's actually good for young kids here, versus older ones?

The livestock exhibition, petting animals, equestrian show, and nature education space work great for ages 4 and up. The lamb-eating contest and donkey races are more fun to watch if your kids understand what's happening, so probably better for 6 and up. Toddlers will enjoy the animals but might get overwhelmed by the crowds and noise.
