What you need to know

  • It's a midnight show, timed around the new year, so plan for a very late night with kids.
  • Fireworks and drones overhead, loud and bright, which can be a lot for noise-sensitive little ones.
  • No seating or shelter, you'll stand outdoors in a big crowd on a cold December night.

About

Barcelona rings in the new year with a free open-air show of drones, fireworks, light beams and music on Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina, the wide avenue running up to Montjuïc from Plaça d'Espanya. Tens of thousands of people gather along the avenue to watch the spectacle, which is staged by the French company Groupe F and choreographed to a soundtrack blending traditional Catalan instruments with electronic sound. The show runs through the final minutes before midnight and into the first minutes of the new year. It's free, with no tickets or capacity limits, and there is a reserved viewing area for people with reduced mobility.
