Get there an hour or more before midnight if you want a clear view. The avenue is wide but it fills with tens of thousands of people, and the closer it gets to midnight the harder it is to move or see over the crowd. Picking a spot near the top of the avenue, closer to Montjuïc, usually means a better angle on the drones and fireworks.

How do we get there by metro?

Take the metro to Espanya (L1, L3 or L8), which comes out right at the bottom of Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina. Be aware that public transport runs all night on New Year's Eve but is extremely busy, so leaving straight after the show means a long wait.

Is it too much for young kids at midnight?

Accepted Answer

It's loud, bright and very crowded, and it doesn't start until just before midnight, so it suits older kids who can handle a late night more than toddlers. If you do bring toddlers, hang back from the densest part of the crowd and head out as soon as the show ends to beat the crush.

Are there bathrooms nearby?

There are no permanent toilets on the avenue, so take everyone before you head up or duck into a bar or restaurant around Plaça d'Espanya. Once you're in the crowd it's very hard to get out and back to your spot.
