Question 1

How long should we plan to spend there?

Accepted Answer

Two to three hours is realistic if you want to do a few workshops without rushing. If you go with younger kids (under 8), pick two or three activities max and don't try to see everything, or you'll spend the whole time herding them between rooms.

Question 2

Do we need to book ahead or can we just show up?

Accepted Answer

Saturday is walk-in only, no reservation needed. Friday is for school groups and requires advance booking, so skip that day unless you're bringing a class. Saturday gets busy but it's not ticketed, so arrive early if you want to grab spots in the popular workshops like the DNA one.

Question 3

What ages get the most out of it?

Accepted Answer

Eight and up will genuinely engage with the workshops and understand what's happening. Younger kids can tag along and touch things, but they'll get bored if you're trying to explain DNA sequencing. Teenagers are fine too if they're even slightly curious about science, but don't expect it to blow their minds unless they're already into it.
