The map on this page pins every yard. The nursery yards, with sandboxes and toddler areas for under-sixes, are the pins named "(under 6)". For each school's hours and entrance, open the city's list below, which is grouped by district and neighborhood.

Do I need to sign up?

No. You walk in during the open slot.

Which ones open on Friday?

Seven, all late afternoon: Alexandre Galí (Barceloneta), Drassanes (Gòtic), Baldiri Reixac (La Salut, next to Park Güell), El Carmel, Font d'en Fargas, Baloo (Montbau) and Can Fabra (Sant Andreu).

Can older kids and teens go?

Yes. The school yards are open to everyone, teens and adults included.

When are the nursery storytimes?

Saturdays at 11:30am, at a different nursery school each time. They start Nov 7 at EBM Cargol (El Carmel), then Nov 21 at Can Bruixa (Les Corts), Dec 12 at Cobi (Poblenou) and Dec 19 at Caspolino (Gràcia), and carry on through May.

Are the nursery yards open over Christmas?

Yes, except Saturday Dec 26 and Saturday Jan 2.

Is anything open indoors?

The library at Escola Mercè Rodoreda in La Prosperitat also opens Saturdays, 11am to 2pm.

What you need to know

Each school has its own slot. Most open once or twice a weekend, either 11am to 2pm or late afternoon, and seven also open Friday after school. Check the city list for yours.
Nursery yards are for under-sixes. The 20 city nursery schools (escoles bressol) open Saturdays 10:30am to 1pm for kids up to 6 and their families.
Look for the side gate. Many schools open the yard through an entrance on a different street from the main address. The city list names the right one.

Patis Oberts opens school playgrounds to everyone outside class time, so the yard down the street becomes a neighborhood play space. A monitor opens the gate, watches over the space and gets kids playing together. The 20 city nursery schools in the program set out sandboxes and toddler play areas for the under-sixes, and several host a storytime during the season.
