Is Calafell worth the drive from Barcelona?

It's about 90 minutes south of Barcelona by car, heading toward Tarragona. If your kids are into hands-on activities and you want a full day out, it's worth it. The Iberian Citadel itself is a real archaeological site, so even if the festival activities don't all land, there's something solid to see.

What should I actually expect my kids to do there?

They can learn to write in Iberian script, throw slings, make pottery, dress up for photos, and help "rebuild" the settlement with mud and clay. The night visits are theatrical and a bit dramatic, so they work better for kids 8 and up who aren't spooked easily. Younger kids will get more out of the daytime workshops.

Is there food at the site, or should we pack a picnic?

Plan to bring your own snacks and water. There are restaurants in Calafell town if you want a proper lunch before or after, but don't count on food vendors at the site itself.
