SF → Barcelona (Gràcia), kids 5 & 7 · Updated June 2026

Sant Jordi is one of the most delightful times to be in Barcelona with people on every corner selling roses and books (the traditional gift). Kids love the story of Sant Jordi (St George) and the drac (dragon), though my kids learned a much tamer version where the two are friends.

What you need to know

  • Author signings, a chance for kids to meet writers and get books personalized on the spot.
  • Dragon crafts at libraries, hands-on activities tied to the Saint George legend kids already know.
  • Citywide book stalls, spread across three major streets so you can pick a less-crowded spot to browse.

About

On April 23rd, book stalls and rose vendors line Las Ramblas, Passeig de Gràcia, and Rambla Catalunya. Children's-book authors hold signings, families exchange books and roses, and bookstores and libraries run dragon-themed crafts and storytelling tied to the Saint George legend. Schools host reading events and rose-making activities throughout the day.
