Is this worth going to if my kid isn't into Japanese culture?

Yes. It's not a lecture or museum thing, it's a street festival with drums, sword demonstrations, food stalls, and hands-on workshops like origami. Kids who don't know anything about Japan will still be entertained by the live performances and the chance to make stuff. The Bon Odori dance at the end is the kind of thing that gets kids moving without them realizing they're learning something.

How long should we plan to stay?

Two to three hours is realistic if you want to catch a couple of performances, do a workshop, and grab food. The festival runs noon to 9 p.m. both days, so you can show up whenever and leave whenever. If you go on a Saturday afternoon, it'll probably be more crowded; Sunday morning might be quieter if that matters to you.

MATSURI is the 10th edition of a traditional Japanese summer festival featuring Bon Odori dance demonstrations, live Taiko drum performances, Japanese painting, martial arts displays from Katanayaichi and Barcelona Taiko, craft workshops for children, origami and calligraphy sessions, and food stalls serving typical Japanese festival dishes. The program runs across two days with performances from Japanese artists and local groups.
