Do we need to book anything?

Not for the free outdoor activities: the sound installation, photo corner, reading space, drum workshops and student concerts are open to anyone who turns up. The brass concert, the sound workshop and the museum guided visit need a ticket, and places are limited. On Sep 30 all three still had places, but the 4:00pm sound workshop was down to 1 and the 5:00pm museum visit to 5. A brass concert ticket also gets you into the Museu de la Música for free that day.

Where is each activity?

It is all in one building. The free drop-in activities and the drum workshops are outside at La Llanterna, the open space at the entrance on Carrer de Lepant. The student concerts are outdoors on the ESMUC music school side, on Carrer de Padilla. The brass concert is in Sala 2 Oriol Martorell, and the sound workshop and guided visit are in the Museu de la Música, both inside L'Auditori.

Will my kid need Catalan?

Not for most of it. The concerts, the sound installation and the Korean drums are hands-on and about listening and playing. The sound workshop and the museum guided visit are led in Catalan.

What happens if it rains?

L'Auditori says Toca Festa goes ahead rain or shine. If it rains, some activities move to a different space. The new spots had not been announced on Sep 30, and L'Auditori says they will be posted on the official Toca Festa page.

Which paid session fits which age?

The brass concert "Els colors del metall" is for ages 2 and up and lasts 50 minutes. The sound workshop "Els colors del so" is recommended from age 5 and lasts an hour. The museum guided visit is for ages 6 and up and also lasts an hour.

What you need to know

The free part needs no ticket. Turn up at La Llanterna, the outdoor space at L'Auditori, and join in.
Everything pauses from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Come for the morning or the afternoon block, not the gap in between.
Paid sessions are small and filling up. Book ahead for the brass concert, the sound workshop or the museum visit.

About

Toca Festa is L'Auditori's family music day, on Saturday, October 3. The free part happens outside at La Llanterna, the open space at the entrance, and needs no ticket. Kids can play Orkestrònia, a sound installation where everyday objects become instruments heard through headphones. There is also a dress-up photo corner, a reading space with music-themed picture books, short Korean drum (janggu) workshops, and three small concerts by ESMUC music students. Three indoor sessions need a ticket. "Els colors del metall" is a 50-minute family concert that introduces trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba and sousaphone (ages 2 and up, 11 euros, or 9 euros each for 4 or more tickets). "Els colors del so" is a one-hour workshop with the Baschet sound sculptures at the Museu de la Música (ages 5 and up, 6 euros). The museum also runs a guided visit (ages 6 and up, 6 euros, booking required). The music, the sound installation and the drums need no Catalan. The sound workshop and the guided visit are led in Catalan.
