How does the letter tradition work?

Kids write, draw or dictate a short letter to their favorite king, Melcior, Gaspar or Baltasar, saying how they behaved and what they would like. They hand it to a royal page or mail carrier before January 5, and the presents arrive that night. Some families leave water for the camels and a snack for the Kings.

Are these spots confirmed for this season?

Not yet. The map shows the 2025 spots and times, and most come back every year. New dates usually appear in December, and this page gets updated when they do.

No. All the spots on the map are free and open, so just turn up, though queues can build on January 4 and 5. The Fabra i Coats toy factory also takes letters, but needs a free ticket booked in advance.

Does the letter need to be in Catalan?

No. The pages accept letters in any language, and a drawing works just as well for kids who cannot write yet. The city's letter page has a template to print or fill in online.

What if we miss them all?

Royal mail carriers collect letters along the route of the big Three Kings Parade on the evening of January 5, and the city's letter page lets kids write one online.

What you need to know

Earliest spots open mid-December: the royal mailbox at Plaça Major de Nou Barris and the fair in the Jardins de la Rambla de Sants ran from December 16 and 17 in 2025
Markets are the easy weekday option: royal pages sat in Concepció, Clot, Sants, Ninot, Les Corts, Abaceria, Lesseps and Sant Antoni in early January

In Catalonia many kids write their wish list to the Reis, the Three Kings. They pick a favorite, Melcior, Gaspar or Baltasar, and in the days before January 5 hand the letter in person to a patge reial, one of the royal pages, or to a royal mail carrier, often with a quick chat about how good they have been all year. The pages set up in markets, squares and little royal tents all over the city. Tradition says naughty kids find a lump of carbó, coal, with their presents, these days usually a sugary version from the bakery.
