Few Barcelona music schools carry a child all the way from a first rhythm class at age one to Generalitat-authorized professional study at 18 — and this one does it as a neighborhood institution rather than a conservatory, with a Medalla d'Honor de Barcelona (2016) for its work in the Raval. The draw for kids is how much of the learning happens in a group: choirs, combos, a big band and orchestras that play out around the city.
Raval music school teaching since 1992, with around 600 students and a team of 52 teachers, most of them working musicians. Kids move from early-years sensibilització through musical language and instrument lessons — piano, guitar, strings, winds, percussion and voice — and there are choirs, combos, a big band, orchestras and musical-theater groups to join along the way. Classes run across two Raval sites, C/ del Carme 15-17 and C/ Riera Alta 10.
