When is the 2026 show?

The 31st Circ d'Hivern is in the works, directed by Anna Pascual and Wanja Kahlert of PSiRC, but the title and dates are not out yet. Last season, La gran plantada ran from December 13, 2025 to January 18, 2026, with about two dozen public shows plus school shows.

Is it OK for younger kids?

The Ateneu calls it a show for all audiences, recommended from age 8. It is a poetic kind of circus with quiet moments, so it suits kids who can sit through an hour of theater; little ones who want nonstop action may find it slow.

There is very little text. The story comes through circus, live music and images, so kids who don't speak Catalan can follow it.

Yes, tickets are sold online through the Ateneu's website. In 2025 two shows, on January 10 and 11, had audio description, a touch tour, sign language and subtitles; those are booked at entrades@ateneu9b.net or 93 867 85 41.

Can we catch it somewhere else?

Sometimes. The shows tour after the winter run: the 2025 show, La gran plantada, played the Grec summer festival at the Mercat de les Flors in July 2026.

About

Every winter since 1996 the Ateneu Popular 9 Barris has made a brand new circus show and run it through the Christmas holidays. The Ateneu is a neighborhood arts center in an old asphalt plant in Nou Barris, taken over by local residents in 1977, and each year a different Catalan circus director is invited to create the show, so it is never the same twice. This is contemporary circus: no big top or ringmaster, just five or six artists on a theater stage doing rope, acrobatics, balancing and clowning, woven together with live music and a loose story. It has a loyal local following, and the shows often go on tour afterward.

€12, kids under 14 €6 in 2025
