What will my child do in the session?

Accepted Answer

After hearing Katherine Johnson's story, the children make rings of fog: donut-shaped puffs that hold their shape as they float across the room, the same way a smoke ring does. Watching where the ring goes and how long it lasts is how the session gets across the way gases move. It is hands-on the whole way through, so expect your child to be making and testing rather than sitting and listening.

Do I need to stay the whole time, or can I drop my kid off?

You need to stay. The workshop is designed for kids 6-12 with one adult accompanying them, so it's a parent-child activity. It runs 90 minutes, so plan to be there the full time.

How do I register, and is there still space?

Accepted Answer

Registration is open now through the Vil·la Urània booking site and places were still free when we checked on 9 September. Two things to know: the booking has to be in the adult's name, and you register every person coming, so that is two places for one child plus one adult. If you are one adult with two or three children, email activitatsinfancia@vilaurania.net instead of booking online. Places are limited and the free family sessions here fill up, so book as soon as you can, and if plans change, tell the center so someone else can take your spot.

Question 4

Is this in Catalan only, or will my kid understand if they don't speak it fluently?

Accepted Answer

The workshop is in Catalan. If your child understands some Catalan but isn't fluent, the hands-on experiments will help them follow along, but there will be explanations they might miss. If your kid doesn't speak Catalan at all, this probably isn't the best fit.
