How do we get to each fair?

Girona is the one to do by train, and its fair spreads through the city center. The other four are small villages where a car is simplest; the drive times are under Getting there. Sant Feliu Sasserra asks for €2 per car to park, and cash is best.

Which ones suit little kids best?

Calaf's pumpkin fair is short and gentle: one square, one morning, and a paint-your-pumpkin workshop. Viladrau is an easy chestnut day out. Sant Feliu Sasserra has a family puppet show at 11am and 3:30pm and a clue game for kids, but its scenes from 6pm act out a witch trial and a hanging. Pratdip has puppets and storytelling, and also a scary alley and a new House of Fear that are best skipped with small children.

Walking around all five fairs is free. You pay for food and a few extras: in 2025 Pratdip charged €2 to €5 for its shows and the scary alley. In Girona most of the street program is free, and funfair rides are paid.

About

Late October is harvest time in the towns inland from Barcelona. In the Montseny the fair is all about chestnuts, roasted over open fires, and guides lead walks through centuries-old groves. Out on the plains, farmers weigh their biggest pumpkins and kids paint small ones to take home. Other towns retell their witch legends, with whole villages dressing up for puppets, street theater, music and fire.

Notes: By car from Barcelona, Viladrau, Calaf and Sant Feliu Sasserra are each about 1 hour 15 minutes away, and Pratdip about 1 hour 45 minutes. Girona is the one to do by train: high-speed trains from Barcelona Sants take about 40 minutes. Plan for village parking on fair days.
