Which days work best for younger kids?

The weekend mornings. In past years the fair of local groups, the giants parade and the castells all ran before lunch. Evenings with concerts, fire and fireworks run late and loud.

Can young kids watch the correfoc?

Yes, from a distance. The devils spray sparks into the crowd, so stand at the back or in a doorway, dress kids in cotton with sleeves and a hat, and bring ear protection.

Shared meals are part of the festa: past years had a paella day in Parc de Sant Martí, a tapas night at Mercat de Provençals and a botifarrada. Check this year's program for which ones return.

Do kids need to speak Catalan?

No. Announcements and speeches are in Catalan, but giants, castells, fire and music need no language.

The festa major of La Verneda and Sant Martí de Provençals is put together by the neighborhood's own associations, so the program changes each year around a few fixed classics: the giants, the devils' correfoc, castells (human towers), a fair of local groups on Rambla de Guipúscoa and shared meals like the paella day. Daytime events are calmer for toddlers. Evenings run louder and later, better for older kids.
