What you need to know
- About a dozen need no booking at all, like Castaween al Guinardó and Nit d'Ànimes: just turn up in the late afternoon
- Best for toddlers: Castaween al Guinardó (up to 12) on Thursday, October 29, and the gentle, lit-up little kids' tunnel at Ateneu La Bòbila de Porta on Friday, October 23
- Friday, October 30 is the big night, with a dozen parties across the city, most starting at 5pm or 5:30pm
About
Civic centers, libraries and neighborhood casals all over Barcelona throw small parties for the Castanyada, and many mix in a little Halloween too. Think roasted chestnuts, the Castanyera in her headscarf telling stories, puppet shows and face painting. These are the neighborhood's own parties, small and friendly. Kids roll panellets, walk through a homemade spooky tunnel, or just eat warm chestnuts with friends.
