It runs every year and always opens before December 13, but the 2026 dates are not out yet. In 2025 it ran from November 28 to December 23, 10am to 9pm.

When can kids beat the giant Tió?

In 2025 the giant Tió was out on December 6, 7, 8, 14 and 20 from 11am to 1:30pm and 4:30pm to 7:30pm, and on December 5, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18 and 19 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. It is free: kids tap the log with a stick and get sweets. Expect a queue at weekends.

Where do we buy a Tió and a caganer?

Tió logs of all sizes are sold in the greenery stalls, next to the moss and Christmas trees. Caganers are in the nativity-figure stalls, from the classic farmer in a red barretina cap to footballers and famous faces. Buy the Tió early in December so kids have time to feed it before Christmas Eve.

Is it OK with a stroller?

The square is flat, but the aisles between stalls get tight at weekends and in the evening. A carrier is easier for little ones at busy times.

Is there anything else for kids?

Besides the giant Tió, the fair usually has the Carassa de Nadal parade, traditional dancing and music, and short workshops by Barcelona's nativity-scene makers' association.

Since 1786, the square in front of Barcelona Cathedral has filled with Christmas stalls around the feast of Santa Llúcia on December 13. Families come to shop for their nativity scene: tiny clay figures, moss, cork mountains and the caganer. It is also where locals buy their Caga Tió, and a giant Tió in front of the cathedral lets kids try beating it for themselves.
