Do I need to book in advance?

You can buy tickets online or at the box office. FilmoXica card holders can also reserve a place using the reservation form at least 24 hours before the session, which is worth doing for popular titles.

Are the films dubbed into English?

No. Screenings are in the original version with Catalan or Spanish subtitles. Animated and visually driven films work well regardless of language; dialogue-heavy ones are harder for children who don't read Spanish or Catalan.

How do I get the FilmoXica card?

Pick it up free at the Filmoteca box office. On Saturdays and Sundays cards are not issued after 4:30pm, so arrive a little early before the 5pm session.

Is there anywhere to eat at the venue?

Yes. The Filmoteca has the La Monroe bar-restaurant and a specialist bookshop on site, and FilmoXica card holders get discounts at both.

About

The family strand of the city's public film archive screens a film every Saturday and Sunday at 5pm in a proper air-conditioned cinema. The program changes quarterly around a theme, with recent cycles on Studio Ghibli and Japanese animation alongside classics. Films run in their original version with Catalan or Spanish subtitles rather than English dubbing, which suits animation well.
