Will we spend the whole time stuck in crowds?

Accepted Answer

Only if you go for the headliners. The opening procession, the castellers day and the closing Piromusical draw enormous crowds, so with young kids arrive early and stake out a spot at the edge. Everything else is far calmer: street theater, circus and music are spread across parks in all ten districts. Pick two or three things a day rather than chasing the whole program.

Are the correfocs safe to watch with young kids?

Accepted Answer

Watch from a side street rather than from inside the run, and dress everyone in old cotton clothes with long sleeves, a hat and closed shoes, because sparks land on everything. The devils and drums are loud, so it suits roughly 8 and up. Castellers are the gentle alternative: slow to build, nothing flies, and little ones can see from a parent's shoulders.

How do we get around between venues during the week?

Accepted Answer

Metro, every time. Several stages sit on top of stations: Plaça de Catalunya on L1/L3, Jaume I on L4 for the old town, and Fòrum on L4 for the circus park. A multi-trip T-Casual card works out much cheaper than buying singles. Don't plan on doing Fòrum and Montjuïc the same day with small kids; pick one side of the city per outing.

Do we need to book anything in advance?

Accepted Answer

Nearly everything is free and drop-in, so you walk up and watch. A handful of concerts and indoor sessions take free advance bookings and are marked as such on the program, so it is worth a look the night before.
