What you need to know

  • Spread across the whole city, so you can dip in near home instead of one mega-venue trek.
  • Correfocs (fire parades) run evenings, letting younger kids enjoy daytime street theater and castellers first.
  • Shanghai acrobats and a Chinese dragon, the guest-city draw for 2026, with the circus programme at Parc del Fòrum.

About

La Mercè is Barcelona's Festa Major, running September 23-27, 2026 and drawing between 1.5 and 2 million people to venues all over the city. The five-day festival packs in more than a hundred concerts, from traditional Catalan music to international acts, alongside street theater and circus, human towers (castellers), devil parades (correfocs), an international fireworks festival and a drone show over the beaches. Shanghai is the guest city for 2026, bringing acrobats, a Chinese dragon, and traditional music and dance to Parc del Fòrum and beyond. Activities reach all ten districts, and the closing Piromusical launches from Barceloneta beach this year. Alongside the headline events sit the MAC street arts festival, the BAM independent music festival, and museum open days.
