But if you want the full experience (the corona, the sudden darkness, the whole "day turns to night" moment), Tarragona is about an hour south and absolutely worth the drive. Just plan to leave early because everyone else will have the same idea.

You need an unobstructed view of the western horizon since the Sun will be very low and setting during the eclipse. Montjuïc, Tibidabo, Bunkers del Carmel, or the seafront are your best bets. Montjuïc is easiest to reach by metro and has space for crowds. Skip anywhere downtown or surrounded by buildings.

What if we forget to buy eclipse glasses before the day?

Don't risk it. You need ISO 12312-2 certified glasses, and regular sunglasses won't protect your eyes. Buy them now online or from science museums and planetariums. They're cheap (a few euros) and you'll regret not having them way more than you'll regret buying them early.

Is this something a 4-year-old will care about or should we skip it?

A 4-year-old won't understand the science, but they will be amazed by the sudden dimming and the crowd energy. If they refuse to wear glasses, you'll have to make sure they don't look at the sun. Older kids (7+) who can follow instructions and keep glasses on will get way more out of it.
