The full corona of a full eclipse in 2018 was literally one of the most incredible things I've ever seen. Don't miss this!

What you need to know

  • Certified glasses required, ordinary sunglasses won't protect young eyes even at 99.7% coverage
  • Best view needs clear western horizon, so hilltops or seafront beat your backyard
  • True totality one hour south, worth the drive if your kids want the full corona experience

About

On 12 August 2026, a total solar eclipse sweeps across northern Spain, with Barcelona experiencing a deep partial eclipse covering 99.7% of the Sun. The partial phase begins around 19:30 CEST, reaching maximum around 20:29 CEST with the Sun very low on the western horizon. ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses are mandatory throughout. Families seeking totality can travel about an hour south to the Tarragona area, which lies in the path of totality for approximately one minute.
