Check-in is at 20:15 with a welcome drink, dinner on the terrace follows, then from around 22:10 you head inside for the museum, the modernist hall and telescope viewing in the dome, wrapping up at 23:30. It's a relaxed pace, but it's a properly late night for younger kids.

If your child is under 8 and not a sit-still type, the dinner part can drag, it's a proper multi-course meal and everyone stays at the table. The telescope and dome visit afterwards is the hook that wins most kids back. The children's menu (macaroni, then a simpler plate) is quicker and lands at 42 euros.

Can I get there on public transport or do I need a car?

You can get up there by day on the Vallvidrera funicular plus bus 111, but the dinner ends at 23:30 and that bus has long stopped running, so realistically you'll need a car or taxi for the trip home. It's about 20 minutes by car from central Barcelona and there's parking at the observatory.

What happens if it's cloudy?

Dinner and the indoor visit to the museum, modernist hall and historic dome go ahead in any weather. The actual stargazing through the 1904 telescope needs clear skies though, so on a cloudy night you may not see much of the sky. Sternalia rarely cancels for cloud alone, so check the forecast before you book.
