How do we get up to the museum on Montjuïc?

Take the Funicular de Montjuïc from Paral·lel metro, then a short walk, or ride bus 55 or 150 to the door. The walk up from Poble-sec is steep with a stroller.

Is there anything for kids to do outside the galleries?

The rooftop terrace is dotted with large sculptures and opens onto a wide city view, and there is a garden and cafe terrace for a break between rooms.

Will we see Miró's most famous paintings here?

Not necessarily the ones you might picture. The Fundació holds the world's largest Miró collection, thousands of works he donated himself, but many of his single best-known paintings hang in big museums abroad, like the Centre Pompidou in Paris, MoMA in New York and the Reina Sofía in Madrid. What you get here is breadth and the artist's own selection rather than a 'greatest hits' wall.

Adults pay €18, or €17 when booking online. Children under 12 are free, and students 13 to 25 and over-65s pay about €11.

Joan Miró's own collection of paintings, sculptures, tapestries, and drawings fills the white Josep Lluís Sert building on Montjuïc, with skylit galleries built around courtyards. Kids gravitate to the big bright colors and odd bronze creatures, Calder's Mercury Fountain behind glass, and the rooftop sculpture terrace that looks out over the city.
