What you need to know

  • Runs all night, drop-in, so come for the lighting around 22:00 and leave whenever the kids fade.
  • Loud firecrackers everywhere, set off by locals all night; pick a quieter neighborhood square if your under-5 startles easily.
  • Coca and cava tradition, the sweet bread and (for grown-ups) sparkling wine that every Sant Joan party shares.

About

Bonfires light up across 80+ locations in ten districts as locals gather for Sant Joan's Eve. The Flame of Canigó arrives at Plaça Sant Jaume at 6pm, escorted by the City Eagle and Giants, then is distributed to neighborhoods to ignite bonfires in squares and on beaches. Festivities include fireworks, parades, correfocs, live music, coca de Sant Joan workshops, havaneres singing, and raffles. The metro runs all night.
