Zoom the map to your neighborhood. In 2025 Sant Martí had the most stands (20), with several along Rambla de Guipúscoa, Rambla del Poblenou and Rambla de Prim. Nou Barris had 9, and Sants-Montjuïc and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi 8 each. In the center there are two at Plaça de Catalunya, plus Rambla de Catalunya and Passeig de Gràcia.

When are the stands open?

Hours vary by stand. In 2025 the Gràcia and Sant Andreu stands opened around 9 or 10am, some in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi only from 4pm, and most closed by 9 or 10pm.

What's the castanyera and will my kid find it scary?

The castanyera is the chestnut seller from the tradition, pictured as an older woman in a headscarf and shawl roasting chestnuts. She is a friendly figure, not a spooky one, and she shows up in school plays and window displays all over town.

Where do panellets come from?

Panellets are small almond-and-sugar sweets eaten for All Saints. The stands sell chestnuts and sweet potatoes; panellets come from bakeries and pastry shops, which fill their windows with them the week before November 1.

Every fall, roasted chestnut stands pop up on street corners all over Barcelona. A warm paper cone of chestnuts, or a roasted sweet potato, on the walk home is the easiest way to do the Castanyada with kids. The pins show the 2025 stands, because the 2026 list is not out yet. The city usually posts it in late October, and most stands return to the same corner.
