What you need to know

  • Vila Vella castle walls, a walkable medieval fortress with towers and a lighthouse looking straight down over the bay
  • Platja Gran, a 380m sheltered sand beach right under the walls, calm enough for younger swimmers
  • Mar Menuda cove on the far side rents kayaks and snorkel gear, with clear water over rocks

About

Tossa de Mar sits about 100km up the Costa Brava, roughly a 90-minute drive north. The headland is wrapped by the Vila Vella, the only fully walled medieval old town left on the Catalan coast, with stone towers and a lighthouse you can walk up to. Below it, Platja Gran is a 380m sheltered sand beach, and quieter Mar Menuda rents kayaks and snorkel gear.
