What you need to know

About
Two sights face each other across a valley 90km northwest of the city. The Salt Mountain Cultural Park runs guided tours into a closed potash mine, 86 meters down, where salt stalactites and red-streaked walls light up the tunnels. The mine tour is led in Catalan or Spanish, and free audio guides come in English. Cardona Castle is a 9th-century hilltop fortress with the Romanesque church of Sant Vicenç inside.
